Treating erectile dysfunction (ED) with medications, such as sildenafil citrate (Viagra®), is a common issue among many men. However, the use of sildenafil (Viagra®) for ED is limited by safety concerns, as well as the need for further research and development. In this study, we aimed to develop a new, safe, and affordable option for sildenafil citrate for ED treatment, which could potentially be further explored for treatment with ED medications. Materials and Methods
The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study in a population with a mean age of 66.5±10.2 years. The study was carried out between August and November 2015 at a total of 7 centers in Europe, involving 2 university hospitals and 3 primary care centers. The study sample was determined as mean age ± SD: 6.8±0.9 years, mean sex of the participants were 4.6±1.6 years, and their mean age ± SD was 49.1±3.3 years. The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of sildenafil citrate for ED treatment in the general population of the study population, with the intention to assess the clinical efficacy and safety profile of the drug. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of the Western European Region. All participants signed the informed consent form after a minimum of 1 week of informed and voluntary assent. The study was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and the local ethics committees.
